Gulf Coast Corridor Update

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is discussing a work program of updating all of the grade crossings in the FRA's and the Texas Department of Transportation's (TXDOT) databases. TXDOT wants to prioritize them for work and develop a plan for treatment of the crossings. TXDOT would like to do this for every route in the state, but FRA funds can only be used for high speed corridors. So TXDOT will start with the Gulf Coast Corridor. If there is funding remaining, TXDOT can start this same type of work on the South Central Corridor. Grade crossings are usually THE key issue in terms of cost and community sensitivity and have FRA requirements at various operating speeds.
