August 16, 2026 - TRA Newswire -

At a special event hosted by Texas Rail Advocates, attendees spent the better part of a sizzling Saturday morning getting an extended history lesson about trains on the grounds of the Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco, Texas.

Led by the museum Executive Director Bob LaPrelle, a group of rail history enthusiasts got to see first hand the wide range of locomotives and rolling stock that the museum has on its sprawling grounds. From one of the remaining huge Big Boy locomotives and a mammoth Pennsylvania GG-1, the interested parties toured inside Pullman cars and a caboose.

Following the outdoor tour of over 70 pieces of steam, diesel, passenger and freight rail equipment, attendees marveled at the large model trains displayed indoors in TrainTopia, with dozens of G-scale operating units. There was a lot of rail talk followed by lunch at Babe's Chicken Restaurant, near the museum.

The tour was part of TRA's new quarterly Special Event outreach program to build interest in all aspects of railroading and the rail industry.
