Know of any abandoned or old and unused railroad cars that could be made into a new home or facility?

An Abilene area non-profit, Mentoring Alliance, is looking to turn old steel rolling stock into a community experience. 

Dr. Travis Craver, Executive Director of Mentoring Alliance, is putting out a call for rail cars that could be donated. "I’m trying to locate any abandoned or old used railroad cars or trains that I could repurpose in the city. Any help or guidance is welcome", according to Craver.

He reached out to Texas Rail Advocates in the hope of locating a few old rail cars that could be repurposed.

Dr. Craver said "This is a community-focused initiative serving Abilene residents, families, young people, and local businesses. I’m committed to helping strengthening the city through meaningful experiences, partnerships, and investment in people through housing and community."

"We’re open to a donation if possible, since our long-term goal is to restore the cars and then use them to incentivize people to rent them or tour them," he said. At this stage Dr. Craver is ideally interested in 1 to 3 passenger or freight cars but welcomes either a near-term opportunity or a future lead.
