Imagine a world in which San Antonians wouldn't have to drive on I-35 to Austin. A world where travelers wouldn't have to take a bus or carpool to visit family or friends in Mexico.
That's exactly the kind of vision Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai and Travis County Judge Andy Brown are hoping to finally make a reality in Central Texas. Last week, they rode Amtrak's Texas Eagle alongside city, state and Mexican officials to promote the creation of a rail line connecting Austin, San Antonio and Laredo to Monterrey, Mexico.
In addition to rail experts, Nuevo León’s deputy secretary of economic development Emmanuel Loo and Nuevo León Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda attended to sign a letter of intent certifying the need for investment in expanding passenger rail in Texas.
